Getting Your Home Ready for Spring

With the first day of spring right around the corner and summer quickly approaching, getting your home ready for the warmer days ahead is on my homeowner’s minds. There are some easy ways to give your home a quick mini makeover without spending a lot of time or money.

New lighting can be an inexpensive way to change the exterior look of a home. In addition, just polishing up old light fixtures and adding new energy-saving bulbs can dramatically change the overall appearance of your exterior.

After the long cold winter, pressure washing the exterior of your home will brighten up walkways, sidewalks, patios and driveways. There are many treatments that can help with persistent stains.

The front door of your home is a major focal point and often can create a cheery welcome to guests. Spend some time shining up the doorknob, doorbells and hinges. Purchase a new decorative doormat for the upcoming sunny season. Add a touch of color with a freshly painted front door and some potted plants.

For most of us it has been months since we have tended to our gardens. Spend a weekend pruning dead branches, trimming back overgrown shrubbery and remove any obstructive plantings. Spread mulch or bark around trees, shrubs and flowers for a weed-free, well-kept look.

Spending time outdoors and enjoying BBQ’s with family and friends is usually the highlight of the season. Swapping out old cushions and painting/staining older patio furniture is a very inexpensive way to create a fresh new look for your outdoor space. Throw pillows, outdoor rungs and lanterns add a nice touch and complete the look. Many discount stores are starting to fill up with these outdoor items.

Last but not least, clean your windows inside and out. With the sunshine filtering in daily it is important to have clean and clear windows to enjoy the beautiful exterior.

We hope you found these ideas helpful and that you are inspired to get your home ready for the spring and summer seasons. Happy first day of spring!
